The Merchant of Venice begins a new journey in search of the best ingredients for the creation of perfumes designed for the sensitive person who cares about sustainability and the well-being of the environment. The brand has always celebrated the history of Venetian perfumery by retracing the Mude, the trade routes that brought perfumed raw materials to Venice. In 2022, with the Accordi di Profumo Collection, The Merchant of Venice reinterprets the most iconic ingredients of perfumery, some of which were already described in the ancient botanical manuscripts of the Serenissima era, with an eye to sustainability and the future.
Accordi di Profumo is an innovative collection of eight Nature-Conscious Eau de Parfum, of exceptional olfactory quality, created in an exclusive partnership with Givaudan, a leading fragrance manufacturer. Sharing the commitment of the Givaudan Foundation and the Sourcing4Good project, Accordi di Profumo aims to highlight the passion, expertise, and commitment to the process of sourcing the best raw materials for the common good. At the heart of each fragrance is a selection of sustainable and responsibly sourced ingredients that guarantee traceability and maximum transparency on their origin, contributing to the livelihood of local communities.
"Accordi" is the Italian word for "accords" and in the language of perfumery represents a harmonious combination of fragrance notes. The name of the collection is intended to recall the cultural soul of the brand, taking on an educational conception for the consumer, to lead him to discover the fundamentals of perfumery. Each fragrance is "monothematic" and olfactively exalts the single raw material that is the protagonist of the creation, whose name is expressed in Italian together with the origin to underline the importance of traceability that distinguishes the project.
The eight fragrances are equally divided into the four main olfactory families, each characterized by an evocative color: green for the fresh citrusy Bergamotto Italia and Arancia Brasile, pink for the delicate floral Tuberosa India and Neroli Marocco, orange for the warm ambery Tonka Venezuela and Zafferano Iran, and finally, brown for the deep woody Patchouli Indonesia and Sandalo Australia.
In a view of sustainability and greater attention to the environment, each fragrance comes in a 30ml glass bottle made in Italy. The mat white finish and glossy black cap enhance the colorful touch of the label, which bears the name of the fragrance and recalls the olfactory family. The boxes, made of biodegradable paper obtained from algae, exhibit an ancient representation of the raw material in the background, with the same nuances.
The essentiality and olfactory purity that characterizes Accordi di Profumo make these Eau de Parfum wearable individually or combined together following the concept of layering, to create a made-to-measure perfume directly on the skin, with its own unique nuances and facets.
From April to May in the region of Caura Basin in Venezuela, tonka beans fall from their tree. The small nut which is found inside is then dried and roasted. Thanks to this process, an addictive, gourmand scent occurs in the form of resinoid which is then distilled to become an absolute evoking caramel, cocoa, coffee as well as other imaginary delights.
Sustainable raw materials: Tonka Bean Absolute
"For this fragrance, I played tonka bean in a different way, more modern, in association with vanilla," says perfumer Jordi Fernandez.
